My Body and the Body of God

by Liane Mandalis, Possum Creek, NSW, Australia

My whole life I have felt trapped in my body. Now, I know that sounds a bit strange, but this is how it has felt for me. Bodies are dense, they get sick, they are subject to abuse both from ourselves and from others. In short – they get hurt and the pain goes deep. If I choose to not connect too deeply then I won’t get hurt, right? Wrong.

I have spent a lifetime fighting my body and perceiving it as some ‘enemy’ that needed to be at best conquered and at worst abandoned. I was under the belief that our bodies let us down; they shake, they tremble, they vomit, they cry, they bleed, they break, they shut down, they faint, they get SO exhausted… Basically, my body did not feel like a safe place for me to be, but seeing as I had nowhere else to go, the only option was to ‘grin and bear it’. And so I did, through the many ailments that would come and seemingly go, only to come again. Nothing too serious to warrant immediate medical attention, but enough to leave me feeling depleted, depressed, disconnected (but from what?), anxious and exhausted. At one stage it all felt ‘too much’ and I suffered from bouts of anxiety and panic attacks. I was a nervous wreck, ever ready to fight or take flight.

Despite this, I have always been a cheerful person but I could never sustain the joy for long. My joy was punctuated with sudden bouts of excitement followed by dark pits of despair. I mostly avoided doctors (I didn’t trust them) so I never got an official diagnosis, preferring instead to see endless practitioners of acupuncture, homeopathy, natural medicines, reflexology etc. – you name it, I tried it. Some would seem to work for a while but the same complaint would resurface years later, either with twice the fury or disguised as another condition altogether.

It wasn’t until I attended a presentation by Serge Benhayon, one Friday night in Byron Bay, Australia that my moment of grace came. Here was this guy, very normal looking considering the backdrop (Byron Bay is a mecca for every style of ‘healer’ under the sun) standing there in a collared shirt (a rarity in those parts and you can imagine my disappointment that there was not a tattoo or feather in sight) and talking about Esoteric Medicine. The short of it being that – we are love and if we choose to not live this love, then we invite a whole manner of illness and dis-ease into our bodies simply because:

It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.

And then, slowly, slowly over the next 3 years…it dawned on me. The reason I was so depleted and exhausted was because I had turned my back and walked away from the love that I am, that we all are. In full reaction to the lack of love I could see being lived in the world and without seemingly realising it, I rejected love, I rejected myself, I rejected the body that I had come to view as my prison, and…I rejected God.

But…

Our bodies are not prisons made of flesh, far from it. Our bodies are Heaven made visible if only we choose to live our true selves within them and express this truth to the world. Once this is felt, it is extremely hard to continue living recklessly, at odds with our bodies and this includes all the ‘perceived good’ we try to inflict on them in an effort to constantly ‘pull them into line’ and ‘conquer the enemy’ when really, in this state, we are our own worst enemy because we are running scared from what we know is true:

We are love and the fleshy vehicle that we reside in is a great body of love that belongs to the Universe/God, which is an even greater body of love that enhouses us all.

If we listen to this, then we let go of the reins that we are gripping for dear life and allow ourselves to follow the impulses that naturally pulse forth from this our greater body. We allow our breath to sync to the rhythm of Nature, the breath of God – the All of Us – and the panic subsides. A body that is brought back to this harmony is a body that will not ‘let you down’ because all that happens to it from this point is in accordance to the bigger picture, the greater plan, our true home and any illness experienced will simply be a clearing of what has been allowed to accumulate from being in resistance to this pull. Our bodies do this regardless of whether we choose this or not, for their particles belong to the Universe and answer to that call and not to our self imposed one. However, true health comes from not overriding or resisting this but accepting and allowing our bodies to respond to what they so naturally are designed to respond to – Love.

Thus, the real pain here that we all feel, and that is the root cause of all illness and dis-ease, is the pain of being in a body of love and not connecting to and expressing that love.

It is a bit like having the ability to sing like an angel but never opening your mouth to sing. Holding back that beauty and that Divine expression is a pain far greater than what can be physically inflicted on the body and that physical pain serves as a marker for the love that we hold back.

Whether we accept it or not, our bodies are forever responding to the Universe that we are an innate part of, no different to the way our oceans respond to the moon or our trees respond to the wind. So, how do we respond to this call – do we fight, or do we flow? The quality of our health is in our hands. More specifically, it is in every particle that we allow to move in tune with this Divine symphony. Thus, the choice to ‘fight’ or ‘flow’ is ours to make, in every single moment and with every given breath.

  1. Reading this really brings it home how we choose to struggle by ignoring that we are The Son of God first and foremost, and that it is us that creates the struggle by denying ourselves this, and choosing a lesser way to live. It makes sense that our choices will either create space within our bodies or create a denseness which inevitably leads to illness and dis-ease.

  2. “It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.” This line really stood out for me. It is quite alarming that we don’t know and understand this. That it actually takes more energy to resist being the love that we naturally already are…..how crazy is that.

    1. Love is so simple and requires no effort when it is felt and offered without an investment. It is when we bring in the barrage of ideals and beliefs and crossroads of doubt that we fall into the ill health that governs our current world.

  3. It has taken many years to let go of the patterns of behaviour that kept me looking outside myself for the love I was seeking never realising that I was actually craving a deeper and true relationship with myself. Now I am also realising the responsibility we all have in how we express and move with ourselves that either offers a true reflection for others to do the same or not.

    1. Gorgeous Linda in expressing how it is actually a deeper and truer connection we crave with ourselves first and also how through living this movement it offers others that they can do the same.

  4. “It wasn’t until I attended a presentation by Serge Benhayon, one Friday night in Byron Bay, Australia that my moment of grace came.” Serge Benhayon has graced so many people’s lives by presenting the Ageless Wisdom we all come from. I can not but deeply appreciate him and what he brings. Thank you for sharing Liane.

  5. A timely read for me right now in more ways than one ‘do we fight or do we flow?’ even when I ‘think’ I am flowing it is actually the opposite and on some level, no matter how small it may be, I am fighting from flowing. Just as I am writing this I have also seen how I ‘think’ (thinking again .. really not good for us!) of how much I have to do and so my body has been running in the subtle ‘doing’ energy constantly. However I KNOW that when we are connected to our essence and innate love so much gets done, in a quality that feels effortless. So really, fighting is just not worth it … literally. It is crazy the games we play, whether out of fear or stubbornness. I love what you share about the particles in our body belong to the Universe. So simply and beautifull and magical if we allow it. Again more sense … and truth from Serge Benhayon ‘The short of it being that – we are love and if we choose to not live this love, then we invite a whole manner of illness and dis-ease into our bodies simply because: It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.’ We are so much more than our physical bodies but we still need to cherish, care for and love them. Thank you.

  6. This is such a gorgeous piece of writing, deeply touching as it expands us out to the far reaches of the universe and back, to be tenderly present in our bodies again with all the wisdom and love required to live in harmony with ourselves and with each other.

  7. I love coming back to this blog. It is the knowing within each of us that once we reconnect with the fact that our bodies are not just flesh and blood but divinity in form, and that each particle of our body is a particle that belongs to the universe, that we then cannot keep the recklessness going, is the very reason why we resist choosing our divinity, our love and hence the incredible potential to live harmoniously and in fact gloriously. All those idahos we want to keep hold of are a part of that recklessness and we stand by them so firmly to face off who we really are, the beauty and grace that awaits us.

  8. I do prefer to flow but that awareness has not always been with me. So coming from that place where I was unaware and not living in accordance with all that I am part of, has still its repercussions in my body and behavioural habits. These now present themselves one by one to be looked at and to let go of, a beautiful way of reconnecting to a way of living that is presented to me by choosing love to be my guide in life.

  9. If we do not hold steady and know in full who we truly are, we will be sold a lie we willingly buy that serves to bury such truth beneath a rubble of imposed ideals and ‘ways to be’ that have us moving in a way that is far from the love we innately are. By re-connecting to our body we re-connect with the particles that still dance in tune with the breath that breathed them forth – the beholding light of Thy Heavenly Father whose body, breath and love we are forever held within. True resurrection of the Soul’s light here on Earth begins with the choice to breathe our true breath once again and by honouring the vehicle through which this breath is able to be breathed forth into the world.

  10. Our way of living just in our mind is like owning a Ferrari and driving in first gear. Sure you will probably feel annoyed and upset and ‘let down’. But how this might change once you uncovered your mistake. And so I feel you ask us all to consider Liane what living life with all of our body might be like. I for one am ready to go for it with God.

  11. ‘Our bodies are not prisons made of flesh but heaven made.’ Beautiful Liane – it is when we surrender to this fact, when we realise our bodies are part of a massive universal order with an all important role to play we realise we have a grand a responsible part. Every movement we make is either in sync with the universe or not. Our bodies are the hand of God on the earthly plane.

  12. Your blog moved me to tears this morning. From someone who control has played a big part in my life and drive, I have been learning to ‘let go and let God’ and return to being the love that I am and letting what needs to unfold, unfold. it’s not been without its challenges, but it is so worth it and I appreciated myself taking the steps to let go and be love.

  13. This was so beautifull to read, every word felt like the most exquisite poetry (I do not normally like poetry!), it flowed, it was easy to read but most of all it was asking the reader to contemplate, see something, our body another way and you provide the space for us to do this. This is a great to one ponder on .. ‘It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.’ Please write some more 💕

  14. When it actually takes more energy to resist love than to be it the utter extreme of how we live in contrast to what otherwise would be the most natural thing for us is exposed, ie an entire existence created to oppose everything God, the universe and we in essence are. Truly something to ponder on.

  15. It is indeed quite an experience to come to the understanding and awareness that our troubles are simply caused by us rejecting love. It sounds completely crazy until you experience the truth of it and then it becomes a totally life changing revelation.

  16. Our body is really like a best friend, a body of love, ‘Holding back that beauty and that Divine expression is a pain far greater than what can be physically inflicted on the body and that physical pain serves as a marker for the love that we hold back.’

  17. I’m re-inspired to ‘flow’ after re-reading this blog. Yes, when I live in accord with my body there is joy and bountiful health, but when I hold back ‘just a little’ from honouring all of me then a dullness descends because I’m fighting the natural flow of the Universe, I’m fighting Love.

  18. “…the pain of being in a body of love and not connecting to and expressing that love.” – Is it that we don´t love ourselves because we are disconnected to the body of love we are part of or is it the lack of self-love that keeps us from re-connecting to it? It seems to be a loop we are caught in, ie. only as long as we feed into it. The moment we either begin to love ourselves and or connect to the possibility of being in a field of love (being loved and being love in essence) we start shaking the chains of lovelessness.

  19. We most certainly have a natural way of being which is to live and express love, and it is within us all, I guess how healthy we are is all about how close to expressing in a loving way we can muster. Can we appreciate ourselves and the world around us, can we bring understanding and compassion to the fore in all our observations and interactions. These are simple measures of the love we either hold or the choice we have made to reject that love and seek a diversion from this, no matter what, the option is always there to live with more love and enjoy life more by seeing the bigger picture of us being here on earth to return to where we came from, all of us, not as individuals but as part of a whole.

  20. Do we fight or do we flow …. to feel what you share here Liane, that we, our bodies are part of the Universe and forever ready to respond to that call, all we have to do is flow.

  21. “It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.” – if we were to consider for a moment that this would be true the urgent question arises how can we not be aware of this fact. Obviously we are too much in reaction to everything that is not love, around us and as well in our own way of being, it appears to be too painful to feel the love as then we would also feel and admit the overwhelming pain of lovelessness, and we would be challenged to make a conscious and very deliberate choice instead of pretending that we don’t have and constantly make a choice. The difference would be in responsibility to either add to the lovelessness or live the love that we are and reflect true love in a loveless world.

  22. “the lack of love I could see being lived in the world” makes it acceptable if not normal to give up on the love that we are. Yet the reflection of one man, Serge Benhayon, was enough to bring you back to knowing there is love to be lived and the body is our way back to living it – a forever friend, not foe.

  23. Great question – “do we fight, or do we flow?” and man’o’man, when I fight it, it is exhausting! and when I flow, it is effortless.

  24. “It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.” When I heard this fact presented by Serge Benhayon I knew I was hearing the truth and a call of God to be all the love that I am.

  25. “Thus, the real pain here that we all feel, and that is the root cause of all illness and dis-ease, is the pain of being in a body of love and not connecting to and expressing that love.” Absolutely – this is a truth that cannot be denied.

  26. “It is a bit like having the ability to sing like an angel but never opening your mouth to sing. Holding back that beauty and that Divine expression is a pain far greater than what can be physically inflicted on the body and that physical pain serves as a marker for the love that we hold back.”Never before have i been presented with a medicine that reads ‘you are everything already’ beginning from a confirmation that feels so innately true is the start of a remarkable return journey back to love.

  27. It feels like to me that this body responds to a part of life that is far greater than this life. There is so much more to us than sleep, eat, work, health, relationships that we can feel our bodies asking for. Fighting this and focusing on human life without considering the quality of the life we lead has and does lead us to destruction. Following these messages from the body I am learning about the part of us that is greater than this life but completely respectful to life that is needed in order to allow the body and the universe to work together, the universe can’t express in it’s fullness through an exhausted body, so I choose to look at what leads to such exhaustion in my daily life. Living in this way feels far grander for all parties (me, humanity, the universe) than fighting what the body is so strongly calling for – to connect and work together.

  28. Liane, wow, I now have a greater understanding of my own wilfulness where I am attempting to command ‘my’ body as I wish while ignoring the greater call and pull it feels to be part of where it naturally belongs, the universe. This touched me deeply today to know that we are part of something huge, and the question always is, do we flow with that or do we fight it? And our bodies are caught in that cross-fire, forever showing us where and how we can be.

  29. Our body represents the part we play in the whole universe. We therefore hold a magnificent responsibility in everything we express.

  30. Denying the body love and true care is saying no to the connection and wisdom it holds. Reading this blog again has deepened my understanding of self-love immensely and I feel it really starts with the acknowledgment that we are indeed Divine.

  31. Such a beautiful blog to read Liane, you completely turn the tide on our predilection for blaming the body for all it’s ills, for letting us down in the face of our endless pursuits and desires in life. To understand that ‘It takes more energy to resist love than to be it’ is profoundly life changing I agree, and is the most sensible explanation l’ve come across for the degree of ill health, disease and dis-harmony we accept living with today.

      1. So true Luke, it is time to crack this concept that ageing means the body breaks down and is dis-eased. An older body can be just as harmonious as a younger one… and many students of Universal Medicine are testimony to that.

  32. Oh this is just gorgeous… ‘do we fight or do we flow’? Do we fight ourselves or flow with the grandest of the love that makes us… what a crazy but all important question for a humanity that has lost its way choosing the fight instead. Our bodies are heaven-made… when we accept that, wow how the world will change.

  33. Understanding our body is a vessel for expression of love, connection to God, and resisting love is what is causing us deep pain and sadness can support us to make more loving choices. Appreciating how precious and delicate we are is key. This explains why exhaustion is so widespread, ‘It takes more energy to resist love than to be it.’ This is so, so true because when we choose to connect to our body, to love, exhaustion is no longer part of the equation but vitality, joy and harmony can be lived.

  34. When we choose the ‘Greater Plan’ everything flows – why do we hold on to the pictures, ideals and beliefs that lead us into thinking that the thoughts we have know better? The way for Humanilty to become unstuck in this is to feel the truth of the love we are deeply in the body and not doubt this and the world chaos suddenly drops away and everything around us opens up. As you have written so clearly Laine, the body is our marker and by living the truth it brings means it will also bring to us the evidence of what we can return to if we choose.

  35. ‘Thus, the real pain here that we all feel, and that is the root cause of all illness and dis-ease, is the pain of being in a body of love and not connecting to and expressing that love.’ So true Liane when we hold back our expression it really hurts, and we know we have missed an opportunity however another opportunity will arise offering us again the chance to express or to hold back.

  36. I have found through ECTT that it is possible to feel and connect to areas of our body that before I had no connection with. From this connection my awareness is greater and I am naturally more tender with myself.

  37. ‘Thus, the real pain here that we all feel, and that is the root cause of all illness and dis-ease, is the pain of being in a body of love and not connecting to and expressing that love.’ So true Liane when we hold back our expression it really hurts, and we know we have missed an opportunity however another opportunity will come our way sometime offering us again the chance to express or to hold back.

  38. “The quality of our health is in our hands.” So true Liane, taking responsibility for our choices and for the quality of our connection and presence to our body supports us to live from our own naturally harmonious rhythm and from the truth we feel within our essence.

  39. So beautiful this again… ‘Our bodies are not prisons made of flesh, far from it. Our bodies are Heaven made visible if only we choose to live our true selves within them and express this truth to the world.’ When I read this I felt the immense joy of knowing how true this is. The deeper we go into connecting who we truly are, the more our heavenly light and love emanates from our physical being, our particles of physical matter which as you say Liane, belong to the universe.

  40. To know I am Heaven here on earth takes the individuality away, leaving a feeling of connection to the love we all embody and the responsibility in living love as a reflection and reminder, that we are all from the same source.

  41. Liane how you write here is poetry, that we are a piece of heaven and our job is to express that heaven here, and all the pain we feel is resisting living the love we are. A beautiful reminder for us all.

  42. I spent most of my life resenting all the ills my body was presenting and was constantly trying to find ways to fix it. It has been in the last few years, since experiencing breast cancer and then developing a relationship with myself and body, that I can feel there is a greater purpose to be in this body and fully agree and love how you say “Our bodies are Heaven made visible if only we choose to live our true selves within them and express this truth to the world.” Thank you Liane.

  43. I have been realising recently that the moment I don’t honour what I am feeling or sensing in my body and express these feelings, I am immediately fighting the flow you speak of Liane, and this straight away puts my body in a state of tension or unease which is not natural and can easily snowball into more and more of a fight to ignore what I am feeling if I’m not careful, which places my body under more and more strain until something physical comes up to make me reconsider this way of living.

  44. It is easy to only think of our bodies as isolated things that begin and end with our skin but it puts a completely different perspective on life and health if we understand that our bodies are parts of a much grander whole universe.

  45. SO much of humanity’s time and energy is wasted in working assiduously to be NOT in the flow, when really, there can be, if one allows, such a graceful flow to be felt in life.

    1. This is so true. We could even say that we have become ‘comfortable’ with discomfort and thus lost our marker for what true comfort is, which is to live all the love that we are and thus be moving in accordance with the great love that birthed us forth.

  46. Our bodies teach us everything there is to know about love. The mind can think about love, but if the body doesn’t feel it, it tells us instantly. What I have always found fascinating is that our body doesn’t judge us. It is so very delicate and carries a very precise order in the way it harmoniously interacts within and without. We can abuse this, deny this, avoid this and run away from it all. And yet our body simply reflects this all back to us lovingly, without any judgement with the sole purpose for us to learn all about what is love and what is not love.
